So I bought a truck (If it matters- 2008, Dodge Ram 1500, 5.7) and one thing that I want to fix is the muffler, and by fix I mean add, because the last guy just cut it all out and made it into a very loud straight pipe which I'm just not enjoying.

My main question is this, is this something I can do myself? Can I buy a muffler and install it? Is that feasible for a somewhat handy DIYer? I assume I could just cut into the straight pipe and weld the muffler into place. Is that right? I have one of those tiny welders from Amazon that I bought just for fun some time ago. I have some experience welding but nothing beyond just shop class in HS, and what I've done since buying this welder. I'm not sure how confident I am welding in a muffler under a vehicle, with such limited space, but I do think this little welder is good enough to do the job.

And if the answer is yes, are there any recommendations for quiet mufflers? Just anything that isn't loud would be great at this point.

How is it going from an associate position, let's say within maintenance, into a TL in a different department? Is that even possible without knowledge on the new department? I see people post about how they're moving to a new department to become TL but I never see mention on experience within that new department.
