I had to pause at 70% through the final book because the situation between them is so GOOD in the most tragic way. Fletcher is broken and evil, a paid torturer who willingly chose his job, but the one thing Naira and her Tarquin can rely on is that Fletcher will be obsessed by her and what she wants until he dies, no matter how many times both military agents (Naira and Fletcher) beat one another to a pulp in anger in between years of No Contact.

There’s never any kissing or sex between Naira and Fletcher in the books, their toxic romantic relationship was entirely in the past. But no matter how many times Naira and Tarquin think they’ve delt with the evils of Fletcher, he keeps coming back as her ultimate saviour.

Fletcher and Naira can read each other like no other pair in the universe and it’s that complete reading of each other in the last book that is so incredible. It works up to a scene so good I’m going to be forever glad it happened, no matter how the book ends.

Truely, I have never been so moved by a romance that is entirely interior and 99.9% one sided. Yet while what Naira feels for Fletcher is not romantic love, it’s so huge and rock steady that she can gamble the fate of the entire universe on reading Fletcher right in a quintuple cross situation. Kudos Megan O’Keefe, kudos.
