Psychology to IT?
Hey everyone!
Over the past year i’ve decided to change out of the psych healthcare field that I have worked in for about eight years. I got my bachelors in psychology about three years ago and have realized the field isn’t truly what I enjoy. I have turned to a career in IT as that’s a passion i’ve had for some time in my personal life but have never pursued any professional development. I have even applied for some healthcare IT positions at the facility I work in currently.
But it seems my issue comes from not having any formal education or professional experience in the field. I live in a rural-ish town but within driving distance of two major cities so there are occasionally jobs I see open. I’m also well aware that IT, especially entry level, is heavily over saturated. But how would I go about standing out? I’m on track to take the A+ before the end of the year and have brainstormed going back to school at a community college in my town for an associates degree in the field (but that costs significant money).
What would be the best course of action in this situation? Just focus on the certs? Really go for a degree? Or just hope and pray? Any advice would help!
