This has got to be one of the whackiest movies I have ever watched.

It's a fun musical, with occasionally inaudible lyrics. It's got plenty of slapstick. Super raunchy.

Not to mention a really cool mix of animation and 2d backgrounds.

Honestly I kind of wish I was at least stoned for my first time watching it, but c'est la vie.

Check it out on Midnight Pulp.

Hey folks! Today will be my final review of StanbyME 2. Quick note before we dive in: I received this product for free from LG as part of a promotional event, and while I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own. Just want to say thank you for checking these out before we get started, and be sure to check out the contest opportunity here if you want one of these for yourself! (Insert Link: LG StanbyME 2 Contest)

If selected, you will go through the same process I did and review your own posting, your reviews here!

Anyway, onto more important matters.

The StanbyME 2 has really become pretty important in my day-to-day, much more than I thought it would. It’s everything from an alarm clock to an Alexa replacement and more, all while still fitting plenty of other niche needs like an extra wireless monitor or just a bedtime TV.

Bedtime TV

https://preview.redd.it/2t5oe3viqdzg1.png?width=431&format=png&auto=webp&s=97e17c60f43297db83612e278c2fe146bd046c76

By going into the settings and adjusting the timer settings, the TV can automatically power on at the designated time with the option to set LG channels as your “power-on station." You can even set the power-on volume so that the volume is boosted and will wake you up at the designated time. The only negative comment I have about this is it doesn’t let you select a channel or any other apps, which stinks, but the more I thought about it, even if you could set an app, it wouldn’t automatically play a show because that has to be selected in the app, so it makes sense why that isn’t part of the feature. Having the “power-on station” set to LG channels is the best option and will conveniently go back to the last channel you were playing.

LG Power On/Off Timer Settings

Need more for an alarm clock, or don’t want to use LG channels? Simply set up the timer settings to power on at a specific time and use the Alexa app to set an alarm clock for 5 or so minutes after powering on. I didn’t think I would end up changing the setup of our Alexa system at home. But because the app can do pretty much anything, your Alexa can be done directly on the TV. Most frequently it’s controlling the smart lights in the room when I need to boost the brightness. The only thing that it doesn’t do that I’m aware of is integrate with Alexa Plus, so the AI interaction is very robotic compared to a normal Alexa device, which honestly I think I prefer.

Alexa Alarm Integration

Mostly, though, the convenience of being able to bring the device anywhere for whatever is what I look forward to the most. So far it’s been in the bathroom for the kids to watch a movie while taking a bath and morning shower jams; it's been used as a third monitor and been set up on the kitchen counter so I don’t have to take over the living room TV, and most recently it was even brought outside to listen to the news while getting some yard work done. One more nifty feature that made the yard work a blast was being able to listen through Bluetooth and the TV speaker at the same time. This way I could hear at both ends of the yard and not have to blast the TV.

Side monitor #2

All of this, and we’re still playing chess before bed every day. Really, the versatility is unparalleled for something with its capabilities, and normally we would be relying on a tiny phone screen, which means you’re not only sacrificing screen size, making games complicated to play and hard to see, but also, not to mention, the sacrificed audio quality, which makes movies hard to listen to, or at least hard to pick up on the details. As someone who watches WAY TOO MANY movies and plays more games than they should, neither is an acceptable option.

Back at chess again

Anyways, thanks for coming through to my TED Talk! Don’t forget to check out the contest that’s linked in the first paragraph for a chance to get your own LG Stanby Me 2. :)

Milk pasta. No seasoning. No cheese. What the fuck level of stupid food.

Stop posting things like a village house made out of fish and potatoes and barely excessive cheese pulls.

Edit:

For those unaware, I figured it would be pretty obvious from the noodles or milk first quote; the image is a rip on the whole cereal or milk first thing. This isn't your friend's childhood Polish dish. This isn't the buttermilk soup with noodles your grandparents made in PA.

It is quite literally boiled noodles. And milk. Just milk. Nothing else.

Hey folks! So we’re back for part 2 of the review I was invited to do on the LG StanbyME 2 for their community review program! And honestly guys and gals… I really thought this may just be a really convenient second monitor and TV replacement for what I’m lacking in the bedroom (no… not that, ya pervs; I don’t have a TV, which you’d know if you had seen the last review XD). I’m finding the StanbyMe 2 to be much more.

One of the big draws for me has actually been the chess game that comes as a suggested app on the home page once the setup is complete and is playable via touchscreen. I haven’t gotten a chance to test out other games, but I haven’t been able to play chess in years. I never liked doing it on my mobile device because the screen is too small, and it just feels more authentic on a computer, clicking the pieces and tapping a space on the board. Chess is a game that’s meant to be played with your hands, and because this is a touch screen, it’s been a blast to get back into and really feels like you’re playing on an appropriately sized chessboard and moving the pieces in a way that a mouse doesn’t replicate. I’m excited to see what other games are available on it that fill that niche.

https://preview.redd.it/r11lpnp1bdyg1.jpg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40ed632dcf79b8863c6b9eb281ec1680d0c5687d

Which brings me to connectivity and more games. It’s got Bluetooth. It’s got screen mirroring. It supports both Chromecast and AirPlay. For me, Bluetooth and screen mirroring have been the 2 big connectivity features getting the most use. Screen mirroring has made emulating games from the phone super accessible and easy, and the touch screen still works even when in mirror mode. I’ve been able to throw up anything from Game Boy Advance games to PS1 titles, and they all run smoothly through wireless mirroring, which has been a real treat when I want to play my more “retro” collection of things from the comfort of my bed.

Games aside, because of its split design between a tablet and TV, this device has ended up all over the house for various reasons. Another one of my favorite uses has got to be easily sliding the Rolling Stand to the bathroom for those long shower nights for either some music for me or a movie for the kids when they’re taking a bath. They don’t want toys anymore; it’s all about watching Iron Man or some other Marvel thing. (Bonus, because they’re not splashing around, there’s less cleanup afterwards!) Lol.) Just a few taps on the screen or a connected device, and you can get whatever you need set up by connecting your phone to it via Bluetooth and playing your personal music collection through the MoodMaker function, which also has all sorts of other visual options if music isn’t your thing and you just need some aesthetic boost to your room, or by simply going through the various streaming apps available on the device with no remote required.

Now the best thing for me? Being able to take your movie with you anywhere in the house without having to change devices. It was getting close to dinnertime, and I was watching TurboKid again. (If you haven't seen it, please watch it; it's amazing!) Did I want to stop my movie? OF COURSE NOT! Unfortunately someone was already watching TV downstairs.

Anyways, I had been putting off even trying this because most tech with a detachable option is usually a struggle to use, setting it back up is cumbersome, or it's just dangerous and runs the risk of dropping the device.

Not! This! Time!

With the push of a button and a gentle lift, I was able to detach the screen and bring it down to the kitchen. Setting it up with the One-Click Stand, which was just as easy to set up as the Rolling Stand, and I’ll definitely be doing this again whenever the need arises.

Even with all of that said, at the end of the day, it always ends up back on the Rolling Stand, either next to the PC for the next day or in the bedroom for a late-night movie and to charge up for the night. Even with bits of missing carpet and a few bumps between rooms, it’s super easy to move around. As I said in my last review, I’m excited to see what other roles this will fill and how far it will go in becoming a core part of the home. We hope to bring the same opportunity to you as well soon!

Thanks for reading.

I received this product for free from LG as part of a promotional event. While I was asked to share my review, all opinions are entirely my own.

Hey folks!

We are being presented with a really sweet opportunity to work with LG and review the StanByMe 2 from a cinephile's perspective! In partnership with LG, we have set up a contest for a chance for you to get your own chance to receive and review your own StanByMe 2! I’m looking forward to seeing some more of these reviews here over the next little while!

Here is the link to enter the contest: LG StanByMe2 Contest on r/MovieRecommendations

The winners will be selected on 05/14; entries close on 5/10.

Be sure to read all the requirements and how to up your chances of being selected! Good luck to all who enter!

I’ve received my device recently, and so far here are my thoughts:

The opening and setup were pretty much as simple and flawless an experience as you could want with a portable television. I don’t know about you, but something I always worry about when getting new tech is the setup process, as I usually want to dive right in and get it up and running, and finding someone to be around and help get it set up on my time can be… a challenge. So I’m usually doing things on my own that would require 2 or more people. Luckily, with this setup process, there are no worries.

The box is well put together with a carrying handle so you can bring it to wherever your setup space is. It’s light enough for a person with medium strength to be able to easily carry it wherever needed. There are only 2 foam inserts that protect the hardware that are simple to remove. And the foam inserts even help you with the setup! So there’s truly no need to call up your shady uncle and ask him to come help set something up again.

Basically all you have to do is put the wheelbase into the directed area in the foam protector, line up the pole, and then put in 4 screws to the bottom of the base, securing the pole. You’re pretty much already done! The last step was even easier, as the TV mount requires no additional screws; just line the divot in the back of the TV up to the insert on the pole and lock it in place.

Once you’re set up, it’s easy to appreciate the sleek design. The wheelbase is extremely low profile, which makes squeezing it next to or under a side table with a low-profile apron or storage a breeze.

Sliding under the bed apron

Almost immediately the StanbyMe 2 found its place snugly next to my computer desk to make use of it as a 3rd wireless monitor. Even the setup for that was relatively easy.

(Side view for minimal distraction)

Side view monitor for less distraction

Straight-on view for direct viewing

So far, though? The best part of it for me really does have to be the rolling stand. Unfortunately, because of a house flood a few months ago from a burst pipe, some of my tech went out the window, meaning I no longer have a TV in my bedroom. I’ve been relying on a phone to watch movies or listen to music attached to a low-quality Bluetooth speaker, and not only is it killing my neck, but it's also just not the cinephile experience I’ve come to enjoy.

Luckily now I can wheel the StanbyMe 2 right into my room at bedtime and get a movie in before heading off to bed without even worrying about the battery life. The first movie I wanted to try out was The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition), not just for a visual test but also to test the battery efficacy.

At the end of the bed

Simply put, it was able to play the movie with the extended runtime movie with absolutely no problems, clean sound quality, and without breaking my neck. It was perfect for bedroom viewing; I was able to increase the height and angle the TV perfectly to lie down and watch for hours. With the Dolby sound quality, everything was shockingly clear and dynamic for what’s akin to a TV x tablet combo, and the various sound settings made it even more customizable to my preferences. I’m looking forward to getting an ARC-compatible surround sound system to get full use out of the Dolby tech. Even with all of that, one of my favorite features had to be the touch-screen remote. When I lost the remote in the sheets, I didn’t have to go digging; just a 3-finger tap, hit the Ok/Pause button, run to the bathroom, come back, and get started again. (I never did find that remote till I made the bed the next morning!)

So far this has certainly been well worth reviewing, and the versatility of this is something I never expected that I would enjoy as much as I do. Even with its price point, just the fact that it has been an overall upgrade to not one but two rooms is significant, and I’ve only had it for a few days. The versatility of use isn’t something that you get from stationary TVs, and I’m excited to see where else this is going to fit into my day-to-day. I can already see this becoming a core part of much of the home.
