In our community groups, I have recently seen a lot of requests for local families to host international students, some with urgent plea. I was considering helping out. But when I look up their requirements, it involves tremendous work (drive them to school and activities, cooking for them daily, taking care of them physically and mentally, etc) all using your own money to support the students (zero compensation or extremely minimal). I have children at home myself and working full time. There’s no way I can do that. So I am so curious what kind of people can host, and what they motivations are for hosting- they must be loaded with money, time and energy? Seems like a dream.
Plus, I do understand fostering. But this is the exchange agency charging the student’s family lots of money and pocketing the money, then ask the host family to foot the bill and do the heavy lifting? It doesn’t make any sense to me. Can anyone make sense of it for me? Genuinely curious.
I have never seen anyone responded to the Facebook request. So I figure I’ll bring my question here.
