I think I want Wealthsimple to have prediction markets, actually
The world is changing. IBKR already has prediction markets. Questrade is also seeking approval and if Robinhood is able to come into Canada they will almost certainly provide them as well.
I do not want or expect my broker to moralistically gatekeep legal financial products, or otherwise restrict my options because they or some strangers who don't know my situation think they know better.
If I don't use prediction markets, I want that to be because I have decided they are not right for me. If I do use prediction markets, I want to use them as conveniently as possible, with the quality I have come to appreciate from WS, at my usual broker.
You can use prediction markets in an irresponsible way that is almost indistinguishable from going to a casino. You can also do that with stocks, options, ETFs, crypto, and basically any financial product. There are also clear, legitimate use cases for prediction markets.
If the potential harms truly outweigh the benefits and personal freedoms of the customer so drastically that you think prediction markets should never be offered to anyone, then they should be illegal and your efforts should be directed at making them so.
