Why only selected players get extra super medals?

I've seen some posts saying people got free Super Medals from the shop, and my wife's account has also received 50 free Super Medals over the past 3 days.

I'm not complaining or anything. I'm just trying to understand how it works.

But yeah, I really wish I could get 50 extra medals for one more Research Potion.
