Not feeling safe a work anymore :/
for context I live in a very very small town, around about 2,500 people but thousands of extras who work here out at camps and hotels (huge oil an gas town) so lots of new people coming in and out.
the business area is a strip downtown right by the highway which u can drive the whole length of in less than 2 mins, so everything is really close by here.
anyways in the past month there had been two seperate robberies, both around 2-3:30am where the suspect had been armed with bear spray/mace and a knife. one at a overnight gas station and one at the grocery store as the employees were leaving the building. and while crime does happen here it's not something that happens often so this sudden uptick of this (obviously th same guy) going around to places still open during the night really doesn't sit well with me, especially since he hasn't been caught yet
now, I work at a hotel which isn't the most rundown in town but certainly not the nicest one either and we have to file an above average amount of reports for things being stolen out of guests trucks.
I work completely alone at the desk for my whole shift and for some reason every entry point is left fully unlocked 24/7 and there are the front doors right next to me and 3 other side doors on the main floor.
and while we do have cameras it would only take 30 seconds of not looking at them for someone to enter the building and making it to the desk (if not the main door) .
so I have just been so incredibly on edge and left feeling paranoid all the time but also stuck because the job market in this area is very poor.
anyways, had to rant about it because no one else seems to grasp how on edge the night workers and other night auditors at hotels in town feel right now.
