Please don't yell at me. I am a first time home buyer with zero experience on this. This looks unsafe, but what else can you tell me about it. 100+ year old home, 3 stories + attic, and this is basement. This was done by a "professional" contractor.

The whole level is like this. It looks like intestines and we might want to reclaim the space to be used. How to make it more hidden or should we remove it completely, we don't really need it? (Thinking of purchasing a home with this work).
