New Browser Based Budgeting App I Developed
Hey Everyone!
I hope this is okay to post here. I've been developing a new online, browser based, budgeting app that I'm wanting to open for public use!
I started by using a lot of suggestions found here where people recommend making spreadsheets, using formulas for spending, income, etc. I also tried some free apps where you connect accounts and credit cards and honestly, I didn’t like it and wasn’t comfortable sharing my account information. Well, my wife and I were using a comprehensive spreadsheet I made just fine. Kind of. She had some trouble with it. However, my family started asking me to create spreadsheets for them and then a friend did later on as well. Long story short and COUNTLESS of hours later I ended up moving all the formulas and other fun stuff into a web application.
The website is https://finance.drewruthgov.com. It's completely free to use. There is no gotchas, ads, third party tracking. NOTHING. Just pure manual budgeting, if that’s your thing. Please feel free to try it out or don’t. Leave feedback or don’t! I just wanted to extend it to more people like me.
Some more information for those that are interested... I developed this from scratch and have been testing it internally with some friends and family for a while now. I’ve been slowly patching bugs, making UI tweaks, adding features as days went on. The website sub-domain is using my home lab domain which is why it’s a bit funky and doesn’t really match with the website “theme” and name. It’s to save on expenses to be completely transparent.
Here are some features I can think of:
- Two different account types. “Working/Employed” and “Retired”
- Income tracking if using Working/Employed account. (Monthly take home pay and bonuses)
- Monthly bills tracking
- Consolidated subscription tracking (Annual, quarterly, monthly)
- Monthly outlook summaries
- Custom budget category creation with custom allocation
- Projected saving summaries
- Manual expense entry forms with a table showing usage information.
- Previous month(s) expense information
- Daily/Weekly/Monthly email summaries. (This is a feature that is a bit over the top, but it was fun to implement and TBH it’s cool to see numbers. lol)
Anyways I hope this isn’t too long of a post and even if one person finds it useful that'll be awesome! It still is “early” in development and it’s just me working on it so you may find bugs. If you have any questions feel free to ask!
