I’ve researched a bunch of games and have narrowed it down to these based on trailers and online reviews. They all look great and I can’t decide(obviously the more expensive ones look greater but maybe not worth the price difference).

Would love to know experiences of anyone who has played.

Stranded: Alien Dawn. As I understand it you can choose settings that are light on combat and heavier on building up your base (Stardew Valley style lol). Which is my preference. Also anyone try the Robot DLC?

Espresso Tycoon. Under $20, but looks surprisingly good for a business simulator with lots of visually appealing upgrade options.

Shadows of Doubt. I love murder mystery stuff and it’s hard to capture a good one on a video game i think. I’ve read it’s really good except can get tedious after the first few cases as they are too similar in nature.

Fabledom. Looks really cute and mechanics a bit like Civilixaiton 6 which I enjoyed playing.

Faefarm. Looks like an even more adorable version of Stardew Valley which I really love. Also has anyone played the DLCs (Coasts of Croakia and Skies of Azoria)?

Crusader Kings 3: Royal Edition. I like what appears to be a pretty advanced sort of nobility/royalty political/religious intrigue stories between the kingdoms especially. Like it looks like a compelling storyline on top of a solid Civilization-style world management engine.

Civilization 7. I did like Civ 6 a lot, and I’ve heard this one is worth the upgrade but I’m still sort of afraid it’s not really, as it’s the 2nd most expensive game on my list. However there’s a sale right now making the Deluxe Edition $59.99 (normally $99.99).

Ok - the state of play:

Me: 40 y/o single mom with teen boys. Have to travel a lot for work and am really really low on funds from gas prices and a 16 y/o bday party for my son this month

My Niece: 12 y/o only child who lost her mom to covid in 2020 and lives with my mom/her grandma, homeschooled by nana (because she’s severely dyslexic, not a political statement)

Her grandma: 75 y/o tons of energy, homeschools my niece, jokingly calls herself TradNana (because she loves to garden, cook and just got chickens, not a political statement)

Their shared interests: gardening, cooking, arts/crafts, and a small memorial garden they keep for my sister near the food part of the garden, cats (they have 2 indoor, one outdoor, and they’re all terrified of the hens), sourdough bread making (my sister made starter at the beginning of covid before she passed so it’s a way to connect with her)

My mother’s day gift to my mom is to take my niece for the weekend. My mom gets very little break from her and mother’s day is always hard - we used to do it together but it’s really worked out better for everyone to get a break from each other.

I’m trying to think of some low-cost, diy-type crafting gift that would still be useful somehow.

Would love any and all ideas! Happy to answer further questions if needed.
