Charging Apple Care+ to Apple account balance instead of credit card

From reports online, it appears that if I subscribe to yearly Apple Care+, the first payment will always be charged to my credit card on file as opposed to my Apple account balance. Subsequent payments will be to my account balance if it covers the full amount, but not the first yearly payment.

Similarly if I subscribe monthly, the first payment is charged to credit card, then subsequent payments to account balance.

If I subscribe to monthly Apple Care+ and then after the first month, change to yearly Apple Care+, would that first yearly payment be charged to my Apple account balance or my credit card?

I bought a Mac from BB after price matching a deal at Microcenter. I also bought My Best Buy Plus because I wanted to extend the return window to 60 days.

The price was $2198 at Best Buy and $1799 at Microcenter.

When looking at the receipt, I see that the following applies:

  • Price match $349
  • Product Total $1849
  • MBB+ Discount $50

This seems like pretty shady accounting. Why are they categorizing that $50 under "Discount" instead of "Price Match".

It wouldn't ultimately matter to me except that when I try to cancel MBB+ before the 60 days is up, they say I cannot cancel because I used a $50 benefit, when the truth is, they didn't price match to $1799, they price matched to $1849 and then took another $50 as the MBB+ benefit to get to $1799.

If I was really getting the MBB+ $50 off benefit I should have paid $1749.

I'd like to purchase 3 years of Apple Care+ for a MacBook I bought a couple of weeks ago using cash balance I have on my Apple account. This computer will be a gift for a family member in 3 months.

I had a couple of questions:

  1. I signed in using my Apple ID to purchase Apple Care+ but looks like I can only purchase 1 year and not 3 years anymore. Is there any way to purchase 3 years of Apple Care+ upfront?

  2. If I purchase 1 year, am I able to use my cash balance on my Apple Account? I saw a "confirm purchase" button but it didn't tell me what it was going to charge so I didn't click it.

  3. If I purchase 1 year and then switch the Apple ID on the MacBook when I give the gift, will Apple Care+ keep renewing to my account and my cash balance or will it charge the new user's ID?

Thank you!
