I know this was months ago, but I'm still confused about what happened and figured I'd ask here.
My grandparents' internet went out, and before the technician arrived, an AT&T In-Home Expert stopped by. He got them to upgrade their phones and switch their wireless service to AT&T. Since my grandfather is a veteran, he also set them up with a military discount. He even coordinated with someone from an AT&T store to deliver the new phones, everything seemed to go smoothly.
Then at the end of the visit, he told them he'd come back the next day to collect their old phones and complete the trade-in. Yet this guy never showed. My grandfather called and left three voicemails using the number on his business card, but never got a response.
After waiting several days, my grandfather called AT&T directly, explained the situation, and a customer service rep apologized and sent return boxes instead.
Since we live states away, I didn't find out until I visited for the holidays and asked about their new phones and checked their billing to make sure nothing scummy happened, yet their military/trade-in promo was there. Yet what I don't understand is why he told them he'd come back if he had no intention of doing so. He already had his sale, why not just arrange the return boxes from the start, or at least answer the phone and let them know? The ghosting was just bizarre.
I've since looked up stories about AT&T In-Home Experts and seen some real horror stories. Fortunately, nothing like that happened here, but the whole experience still felt off.
