Birthday Birkin?
My wife’s birthday and our anniversary are this weekend, and ever since we started shopping with Hermès about a year ago, I’ve been telling our SA that my goal was to surprise her with a Birkin around this exact time.
Our pre-spend seems to be in the appropriate range for our store, and our relationship with the SA has honestly been great. My wife purchased me a men’s watch in December so I’d like to think that “Birkin bait” helps as well on top of every that else…
Last week I stopped in to buy my wife Orans for Mother’s Day and reminded our SA that the birthday/anniversary week was coming up. She said they didn’t have any bags that day, but she did go in the back to check and mentioned a couple colors that I knew my wife wouldn’t want. There was no mention of needing more spend or “building the profile” further.
What stuck with me was that she also mentioned she knew what was coming this week (Mon–Fri), but didn’t know next week’s shipment yet. Maybe I’m overanalyzing, but I feel like there would be no reason to tell me that unless there was at least a possibility of something relevant arriving this week. Otherwise why not just say “this probably isn’t the week”?
At this point I’m trying to figure out whether I should:
- just let the process play out and trust the SA, or
- go in and buy a couple additional items before the weekend.
I also don’t want to annoy the SA by hovering or texting too much. I already checked in once and she said she’d let me know.
For reference, my wife’s dream specs would be:
- B25 or B30
- PHW
- colors like white, jaune/yellow, Etoupe, Rouge H
- Birkin Touch or suede would be amazing, but we realize that’s probably unrealistic for a first offer.
I guess my main question is: in your experience, if there was something “holding us back” (more spend needed, profile issue, timing issue, etc.), would most SAs generally tell you? Or is silence usually just part of the process?
Trying not to overthink this, but also trying to maximize my odds before Saturday/next week.
