What I learned from a lipstick project pan!

Hi! I completed a project pan for winter lippies and will be switching out to my spring/summer project pan pretty soon 😊 Here’s the progress I’ve made in each colour category:

❤️ Reds
Started with 5
\- 1 declutter
\- Two halfway finished
\- 1 soon to be finished

💜 Purples
Started with 6
\- 1 declutter
\- Wasn’t able to make much of a dent in this category as I wasn’t very confident in wearing my more unique shades 😢

💖 Pinks and Nude tones
Started with 7
\- 1 Pan!
\- 1 declutter
\- 1 half way done

🤍 Clears
Started with 3
\- 1 full pan!
\- 2 almost finished!

What goals I accomplished:
- pan/declutter at least 1 lippie per colour category ✅

- create new favourite lip combos (favourite purple combo, cherry cola lips, everyday red lip, etc) ✅

What goals I didn’t achieve:
- use every product at least once per month -> a part of me believes that this is almost impossible when you have a large collection + are trying to pan products. I really have to focus on a product to be able to finish it, so I’m not sure if I can also try to use everything at least once. But it was a good goal in the start to get to re-know every product before focusing on a few!

- try to wear more bold lip colours during the day time -> with changing friend groups, lifestyles and even jobs, I wasn’t able to experiment much in this department 🥲 I’ll try again in the summer with more fun bright colours!

- not buy more lip products -> probably my biggest fail lol. 3 of the new products I actually found around the house after starting my project pan so I wasn’t sure how to include them, but all the rest were bought new. 3 of them because of wanting them for a long time + sale, 1 impulse purchases and 1 to dupe a panned lipstick + is a limited edition.

What I learned:

- I’m not a layered lip combo type of person 🤦‍♀️ maybe I’ll do a more intricate lip look in the morning, but I definitely won’t reapply it the same way throughout the day. I rarely even reapplied my lip liner, so the max I’m doing is lipstick + gloss

- I forgot how much I love clear gloss! But when I start purchasing it again after panning what I have, I’ll stick to Korean clear glosses that have the silicone applicator that I can easily wipe off and not have to worry about staining it with what I have underneath.

- Definitely not a matte liquid lip person. Not buying any again.

- It’s not about how many days you wear a lipstick, but rather about how often you reapply it. If you wear every day the same lip, but reapply only once due to being lazy and not wanting to bother, you will get through product very slowly. But if you wear different lippies but reapply them often you’ll get good use of them. To me this means that it’s ok to have a somewhat diverse collection of lipsticks as long as I remember to reapply them often. 🙂‍↔️

All in all, I’m happy with my progress and think this was a good start to a rolling project pan! I definitely could’ve done better in the shopping department, but I’m also happy that I didn’t buy more than this as I usually would’ve. I’ve definitely become more mindful of my shopping and hope that it only gets better with time!

Feel free to ask about any questions 😊
I’ll be posting my spring/summer project pan later this month over at the project pan subreddit!

Winter Lippie Pan Project Update! (3 months later)

Hi hi! I completed my project pan for winter and will be switching out to my spring/summer project pan pretty soon 😊 Here’s the progress I’ve made in each colour category:

❤️ Reds
- 1 declutter (Maybaline)
- Two halfway finished (Fenty Cream in Fruit Snackz and Huda in Promotion Day)
- 1 soon to be finished (CLARINS intense oil in Intense Fuchsia)

💜 Purples
- 1 declutter (Sisley)
- Wasn’t able to make much of a dent in this category as I wasn’t very confident in wearing my more unique shades 😢

💖 Pinks and Nude tones

- 1 declutter (peri pera ink velvet = went bad and made my lips crusty)
- 1 half way done

🤍 Clears + plus the Charlotte Tilbury lol
- 1 full pan!
- 2 almost finished (Fenty and Too Faced) !

What goals I accomplished:
- pan/declutter at least 1 lippie per colour category ✅

Itty bitty baby pan 😲

My first pan in the Naked Cherry Palette!

I’ve had it since it came out but only recently started using it. I like using this shade as matte highlight and to blend out the other shades 🫶🏻 I love the colour story of this palette but rarely use it 😢

Hi hi!

This is a bit of a weird question, but I’m looking for any ballerinas here in Paris!

I’m working on a craft project that’s related to ballet and need some heavily used pointe shoes. The more scruffed up, battered and abused - the better! Does anyone know where I can get some? Are you ballerina looking to get rid of hers but feels bad about the waste?

Any and all advice would be really appreciated!

Essence satin lipstick in the shade So Ungreytful.

Genuinely the prettiest nude colored lipstick on me. I always felt gorgeous wearing it and I’ll save a little after it’s finished so that I can find the perfect dupe. All suggestions welcome! 😊🫶🏻

It’s my first time panning a bullet lipstick and I’m happy to be making progress on my lippie project pan!

Did pretty well this month! Probably the most full pans I’ve ever had in one month. Feel free to ask about any of the products!

WRP - Elizabeth Arden 8 hour treatment, Nuxe body oil, M&S midnight blossom (perfect dupe for Black opium by YSL)

Everything else was meh or bad 🙂‍↔️

One of my rules when I started my project pan journey was to only buy an item after a couple of weeks/months of wanting it. I’ve been needing/eyeing a couple of products recently so popped over to Sephora. All was going well until I was by the counter and checked out the mini section… omfg.

Before I knew it, I started feeling this rush and added a bunch of lip products (something I’m on a no-buy), the makeup by Mario contour/blush mini duo (cream blush = no buy; contour is something I’m running out of, but still have some left over) and some other things. Project pan has taught me that I do use makeup quite generously and run out of it, but still - I don’t need 8 mini lip products and a whole bunch of other things that I already have at home. It’s a bit shocking how we’re able to find excuses for our impulse purchases in the moment. I think it’s especially so when it comes to minis because technically we’ll run out of them quicker.

I did end up purchasing a few things I didn’t plan on, but are generally useful and cheaper than the other things. I’m positive I saved myself at least a 100 bucks.

Here is what I purchased (I’m only writing this down to keep myself accountable):

- Nina Ricci Venus perfume and body oil set -> bought it after months of wanting it and “trailing it” a couple of times. Saw that all the perfume sets are on sale and limited myself to only one even though there were a couple that I liked, but I’m very happy I didn’t waste money and only got one! The body oil is a nice bonus.

- one size beauty mini setting spray -> I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my makeup looking bad by the end of a night out. I have other setting sprays to go through, so this wasn’t the best decision, but I’m happy to try it out and most of my setting sprays help to blend my makeup rather than lock it in place.

- Sephora collection precision concealer stick -> I bought one shade because I miss having a matte white to use as highlight. I feel like my makeup hasn’t been as good without it. But I also bought a second shade to use to touch up my makeup on the go, even though I have a makeup forever pencil that does the same thing, but I wanted to try a cheaper alternative (which now I realise I shouldn’t have done and just removed the novelty of the old one and finished it up 🤦‍♀️)

- Charlotte tilbury mini pressed powder -> bought it to try it out as well as have a mini powder for touch ups on the go.

- Sephora collection lip liner -> lost a brand new, expensive Makeup forever lip liner so I bought a cheap one instead. I wanted to buy the same as the one I lost but decided to get the cheaper version.

Overall I could’ve saved more money by not buying some of the things listed above… but at the same time I’m happy that I didn’t purchase even more than this! It’s a strange balance between trying out new things, buying things you excuse as needs and overconsuming. Anyone else struggling with this? I’m just happy I didn’t purchase any lip glosses or oils 🥳 that’s something I always struggle with!
