Hi, Reddit. I'm in kind of a strange and unique situation.

First and foremost, I am an alcoholic, and when I first proposed to my longtime girlfriend, I was an absolute mess. She turned me down, saying that I need to get myself together before we can plan anything like a wedding. But she stayed with me through all of it.

I've since cleaned up after a stint in rehab, and am ready to try again. I am cash-strapped at this point, so I can't buy anything near as nice as I did the first time, so I'm kind of stuck.

Is the old ring tainted? Should I bite the bullet and save up for a new one? I'd love to hear a woman's perspective on this
