Hi all,

I would be grateful for your advice!

I am in the process of purchasing my first electric car, a Cupra Born, to replace my long-serving diesel. The car will be used for commuting approx 12,000 miles a year.

I had planned to buy a 2022 V1 58kWh with 25,000 miles on the clock for about £15,000, however I have been told the battery check came back today at 77% residual(!) so they have declined to sell it. Fair enough.

After some back and forth, they have proposed instead a 2022 V3 58kWh with 55,000 miles on the clock. It has 91% residual battery capacity and has received a full service including new 12V battery, 2 new tyres, brake strip and clean, new brake fluid and coolant, air con regas, MOT. It's quoted at £15,550.

My concerns are

  • 55,000 miles is a lot to be spending £15k on. I usually buy cars with 10-20k on the clock but I have also never bought an electric car so things may be different.
  • The battery warranty is 8 years / 100,000 miles. We're likely to take this car through 100k within the finance term and if not, it'll be a few months out of warranty when we give it back.

What do you all think? Is the V3 option a reasonable deal? Would you have an major reservations about buying an EV with that mileage?

Thanks in advance.
