First, apologies for not getting a clearer picture. Hopefully you can help me identify this. It was rattling aggressively and sounded like cicadas. Lunged at my pyrenees.

I know that gopher snakes can mimic rattlesnakes. I also know with 100% certainty that we have both western rattlesnakes and gopher snakes on our property (both the dogs have gotten got by the former). I'm trying to improve my ability to tell the difference.

If anyone can help identify from the scale pattern that's visible I would greatly appreciate it!
