Location: Maine

Dog got into road and the car coming hit their brakes and stopped. The car behind them ran into the back of them. The 2nd car knocked on my door the following morning (I wasnt there but gf was) threatening to sue. Im not worried until I get paperwork but should I get police report and let home insurance know?
