Not sure how to feel about the -lani ending trend.
Looking at this new SSA data and seeing significant jumps in Aylani, Keylani, Nylani etc etc…Does it not seem a little bit like Hawaiian cosplay? I guess unless the trend was being driven by Hawaiian or Pacific Islander parents, but I highly doubt that given the numbers.
Does anyone know someone who has named their child one of these? If so, what was the thought process? I don’t want to assume, but I unfortunately get a whiff of “we wanted an ’exotic’-seeming name for our little princess!!1!! Alohaaaa!!1!” … Seems somewhat insensitive
It just seems kind of grotesque to me BUT I‘m not Hawaiian, so maybe I don’t have the full picture?? Am I being the friend that’s too woke™️lol??
