I wanted to share my experience with septoplasty + turbinate reduction, since most of what I have read here is quite positive. I guess my case might be an exception, but I think it’s still worth sharing.

About 15 years ago, I had a bus accident while wearing glasses and the impact deviated my septum. Since then, I’ve had ongoing issues, like constant nasal blockage (always blowing my nose) and ear problems (pressure and weird sounds).

After years of not getting much attention for it, a couple of years ago, my GP noticed that my nasal mucosa was inflamed and that my septum was quite deviated. I was referred to an ENT, who quickly put me on the waiting list for surgery. I was sooo excited, especially after reading so many success stories here. I expected noticeable improvements within a few weeks after surgery. Sadly, that hasn’t been my experience at all.

I had the surgery in December, and now, almost 6 months later, I actually feel worse than before. My nose feels completely blocked ALL the time. Working out has become harder because I now have to breathe through my mouth, which wasn’t an issue before (previously, just blowing my nose lightly would help).

I have a follow-up appointment with the ENT in a few weeks, but I’m worried the solution will just be corticoids (I'm almost certain they will diagnose me with non-allergic sinusitis because, yes, I’ve already ruled out allergies). At this point, I regret going through the whole surgery process.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or a slow (negative?) recovery like this?
