Honesty when quitting
Hi guys!
Super excited to be starting a new job here in two weeks. I am not giving notice to my current employer as I’m within my 90 days and they’ll likely just fire me, so I’m drafting my resignation email. Here’s where my question lies.
Do I try to maintain a positive taste in their mouths a little bit by not being honest about why I’m quitting?
For context, my manager has been here for 10 years and may be the most incompetent person I’ve ever met. They are incredibly inconsistent in their instruction and even if I follow their direction to a T there is still a minimum 5 minute conversation afterwards about what I could have done differently or even just affirmation that I did what I was supposed to. They have micromanaged me to the point where they tried to tell me how to organize my PC task bar, start menu, and desktop (what apps need to be pinned where, etc.). I know these all seem like small transgressions but what it ultimately leads to is a mental exhaustion of having to deal with the most nitpicky individual who is constantly changing their standards so it’s impossible to meet them.
Obviously I wouldn’t word it like that in my resignation email, that would be foolhardy. But I am wondering if I should say something, because outside of the god awful management in my specific department, the job is great. Pay is good, benefits are good, and the people are fun. I have dealt with bad management before and just refuse to do it again.
Any advice is appreciated!!
