I recently had an uncomfortable experience with a taxi and wanted to get some perspective.
My fare came out to exactly ₱110, which I paid in full using the coins I had left.
I’m aware of the rising fuel costs in the Philippines, so I understand why some drivers might hope for a small additional amount, but I genuinely didn’t have anything more to give. The driver asked, “Wala ka bang extra 10 diyan?” (Asking for 10 pesos additional) and I sensed he was slightly annoyed.
I apologized and said I didn’t have any more. He then responded with a curt “sige na,” after which I began to get out but before I could properly close the door, he suddenly drove off while my hand was still on it.
I had to quickly shut it while the car was already moving. I wasn’t hurt, but the situation could have ended badly.
I did try to recall the plate number afterward and wrote it down in my notes, although I’m not entirely certain of its accuracy. Given this, I wanted to ask: was I in the wrong here, or was the driver out of line? And is there anything I can realistically do about this?
