Had the worst interview experience with a principal dentist. I was interviewed for an associate position and was looking for a more supportive work environment.
Upon entering the room, the principal dentist stared at me, no questions asked, nothing. I then said i have a lot of questions to ask and if he had anything to ask me first. He scoffed and said “well you need to introduce yourself.” This already felt off but then i briefly introduced myself and talked about why i needed a new job.
He still asked no further questions and told me to start asking my questions so he can get an idea about me. I asked firstly “why are u hiring?”. He then SCOFFED AGAIN and said “well why do u think im hiring?”. Omg my blood was starting to boil.
I then asked some basic further questions like “what the turnover rate of staff? The average years of experience of assistants? Flexibility in ordering materials?”. He replied to EACH OF MY QUESTION with another question “why are you asking me this?”
He then said “you need to stop asking me all these unnecessary questions.”
Omfg!!!
I tried to be respectful and suppressed my anger but at this point i felt so uncomfortable and just wanted to leave.
He then proceeded to probe further about why i looked for new job. I wanted to be transparent and said i need more cases and experience. He asked “why do think you having no cases?” I said “it could partially be that i need to work on my case acceptance rate but also i want to experience new patient flow, new demographic. I want a supportive environment where i can learn and improve”. He then kept pressuring “why you have no cases?”.
I asked if i will have full clinical autonomy as a associate dentist. He then asked me”then do you want to learn?”
He further commented on my treatment planning and finally pointed his finger at me, said “THE ISSUE IS HERE, IT IS THE DENTIST”. “This is why u not getting cases”.
I have never felt this disrespected and undermined in a job interview.
I stopped the interview and thanked him for his time.
