Anyone Upskilling for a Switch?

I’m currently preparing for a switch into a Data Engineering role and looking for like-minded people to connect with. The idea is simple, learn together, share knowledge, and stay consistent.

Honestly, I haven’t found the right group yet where people stick around and put in regular effort. If you’re someone who’s genuinely trying to grow and not just planning, this could work well.

We can do weekly check-ins, share progress, discuss concepts, and help each other stay on track.

IT job vs Govt Job

Posting this on behalf of a friend (he’s not on Reddit).

He has around 4 years of experience in IT and is currently at a crossroads. He’s confused whether to continue in IT, upskilling, aiming for better pay, and switching to a better company, or to start preparing for government exams like SSC CGL for a more stable career.

His current project is quite hectic, and that’s making him rethink the long-term sustainability of staying in IT. On top of that, with the recent layoffs and general instability in the IT industry, job security has also become a concern. It feels like as pay increases, workload and stress also tend to increase.

I’ve personally suggested that he could try preparing for SSC CGL alongside his job for 1–2 attempts and then decide based on how it goes.

What would you suggest in this situation? Has anyone faced a similar dilemma? Any advice or perspectives would really help

Looking for serious study partner

I’m currently upskilling for a job switch into Data Engineering, with a target timeline of the next 3–4 months. I started this journey about 2 months ago.

Like many of you, balancing a hectic job and personal responsibilities sometimes affects my consistency and focus. There are days when it gets tough and I feel like I’m losing track.

So I’m looking to connect with someone who is on a similar journey, someone genuinely committed and consistent. The idea is simple: support each other, stay accountable, and push through the low days together.

If you’re also preparing for a switch and are serious about staying consistent, feel free to connect. Lets grow together
