I’m hoping to purchase a camper in the near future that will be pulled by my Volkswagen Atlas SE with Technology 3.6L V6. I understand that the GVWR is 5600lbs and towing capacity is 5k. With that, I have a few ideas about campers in the 3500lb range. It seems safer to stay as far under the capacity as possible. Trailer brakes seem like an obvious addition that will take some strain off of my car (especially considering I live in the mountains). What else can I look into that will help perverse my vehicle when towing the camper? Are sway bars necessary or advised given my explanation? What else should I consider when choosing a camper? Any brands to look into or avoid? Any advice is appreciated!
