Why didn’t the opposition agree if this was the only contention?

HM was ready to amend the bill to include 50% increase in all states maintaining the same proportion. Why didn’t the opposition agree to this?

Where does the 50% increase come from when it is not mentioned in the Bill? What is the guarantee?

The answer lies in Article 81 of the Constitution.

Article 81 lays down how seats are to be distributed across states based on population. Once the total number of seats is increased, this provision determines the method of apportionment.

A plain reading of Article 81 makes this clear.

The problem is the Opposition either comes unprepared, or chooses not to engage with the substance, opposing for the sake of opposing.

Watch my explanation.
