Kindle 3 with half of the screen / display malfunctioning
Hello!
Any idea of what is the issue with this screen, and how to solve it?
I brought this Kindle 3 back to the land of the living by replacing its battery. I also installed KOReader and used it just for a quick test, and everything seemed to be in working order: keyboard, Wi-Fi, USB, and most importantly, the display.
Unfortunately, the device was stored for years with its original cover in a dark place without being properly cleaned, so the cover was looking like a delicious, ripened Camembert when it was given to me - but the smell was really pungent. To clean the cover I used detergent, alchohol, vinegar, and elbow grease, but for the device I took a lot of care to not get any liquids inside it. To remove the odor from it, I left the Kindle in a zip lock bag with silica gel for 72h. It really seemed to help on the smell, but when I turned it on, the screen was like in the images.
What I found odd was that, after refreshing the screen a few times, it slowly came back to normal - it was working perfectly fine for a few pages in a book, then went back to looking like crazy.
Note that the bottom half of screen is not frozen - it changes as I open menus, turn pages, etc.
I just opened the device again, disconnected the display's ribbon cable, sprayed a bit of contact cleaner on the connectors, but the issue persists just the same.
Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks!
EDIT: I measured the battery after a full charge, it was at 4.17 V.
