I know silkies are late bloomers, but I’m guessing this wide set comb that’s hot pink is not a good sign that little Peep is going to get to stay a permanent resident… we got 9 and 7 seem to have the more “u” shape comb, and “boy” behavior with all the sparring and stuff. 3 of the white ones are starting to get pretty pink on the combs but this one is super bright. Straight run is off my list now that we have our cockerels we are keeping. I hate you can’t just keep them all. 🥴

It’s the end of day 3 of corid in the water, only corid water is being used (1.5 tsp 20% to 1.5 gal water). Only food being offered is chicken starter grower. Of the chickens 2 are frequently making a “cry” type chirp but otherwise acting fairly normal. Most of the group is a toned down but not lethargic version of themselves. No sparring or anything really like usual but up moving about, everyone else is eating and drinking like normal chatting with each other and all. And then there is chicken little…. 😔 instead of starting to perk up like everyone else he’s seeming to go downhill. Isn’t himself at all, isn’t doing the run when I go to pet him or pick him up thing, just sits fluffed up or stands head pulled in feathers ruffled. He ate a bite or two of food today that I saw, and I haven’t seen him drink today. I dipped his beak a few times and he would swallow that but just stand there waiting to walk away from the waterer and find a place to stand or sit. I’m not sure what else to do. Half the group at least has the bloody poo so I didn’t pull him out because that seemed pointless if they all have it anyway and he’s upset if he’s not with the group… is there anything else besides keep trying to encourage drinking and hope for the best on a pull through? His come and wattles are very pale, eyes are a bit sunken in today. I’m just sad, he’s such a good boy.

I have 13, 11 week old chickens mixed set of breeds. None of them are acting different, everyone is eating and drinking properly. Everyone is moving around, the boys are still doing all their practice crowing and little sparring and such. They are currently kept inside, my husband is finishing up the coop outside (taking a little longer than we thought as we got more younger chickens so he’s making it bigger). One male his comb looks more pale than it was, and another has lighter wattles than he did- both acting totally normal. However yesterday I started seeing poop that’s totally red. I’ve seen a one off twice before but when it didn’t happen again I chalked it up to that lining shed thing since it was more like “strings of red” just in the poo and only one pile that day and didn’t happen but two times since I’ve had them. This… looks like there’s a vampire in the mix. The one bird I’ve seen do it isn’t one of the ones with the pale comb/wattles- I suspect that one is a hen, not totally sure yet hasn’t crowed. I started 1.5 tsp to 1.5 gallon water of 20% corid powder yesterday just to be sure… but any input? Sorry it’s long winded, I love then and they all have names and I’m a first time chicken momma.
