Advice for writing an Antisocial Protagonist?

So, my protagonist is pretty introverted and antisocial with others (he’s the SHSL Lucky Student and doesn’t think he fits in with them, plus he just generally likes being alone). I want his arc to be learning that not everyone can be judged by a status symbol and people have more in common with each other than they think. In my ch1, though, I want him to still be uninvolved with everyone. He sleeps a lot and only goes out to eat or when others literally drag him out of his room (I have another character that’s the complete opposite of him who always tries to hang out with him, long story).

My question is, how do I develop the rest of my cast when my protagonist’s antisocial attitude is in the way? I can’t just remove that from him, as I want it to be a big part of the first investigation and his relationship with another important character. But I also want my cast to shine and have THEIR relationships with my protag and each other be developed. Advice?

OC Idea: Ultimate Waitress

Think a catgirl maid cafe waitress. Maid dress, kinda short, with a welcoming and kind attitude. Although, her true personality is cool and confident, and she just pulls off the act incredibly well. Either way she’s a manipulator. She’s INCREDIBLY proud of being an Ultimate at the sake of sacrificing her dignity, as she believes it’s a small price to pay for the adoration. She can switch between her ‘performance’ and ‘true’ personalities on a dime, but only does the former if she’s on work or thinks it’ll impress somebody. I can imagine she‘d try to go “too far” with her classmates (she’s extremely hardcore and doesn’t care about losing dignity, make an inference as to what I mean) who would all naturally push her off, making her a little unlikable among the cast, but overall she’d have her moments. What do you all think?

How do you guys choose your protagonist’s ultimate talent?

Do you keep it strictly in line with your theme? Do you try to think about what talents would be advantageous in a killing game? Maybe you do a mix of both, or even neither?

I’ll start. I chose my protagonist to be the Ultimate Lucky Student (original, I know, but hear me out) because my theme was perfection vs imperfection, and I felt that a traditionally “talentless” person could highlight my message that success is found through embracing one’s imperfections.

My take on a trial gimmick involving an Ultimate Medium

I made a post about an idea for an Ultimate Medium beforehand, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about how that could actually play out in trials. I haven’t personally seen any Fangans with an Ultimate Medium, so it may bear similarities to someone else’s, but I don’t know for sure.

After each death, the Ultimate Medium (I’ll just call them UM for short) does a seance to try to understand what happened in a victim’s last moments. Per the rules of souls and being a spirit medium that I am making up as I go, the UM can’t see what the victim saw or hear what they heard. What they CAN do is note certain sensory and emotional data the victim felt before their death. These include the mix of emotions they felt as well as when exactly they felt the pain of their death.

Let’s visualize how this could work. Say the UM sees that a victim felt fear before their death. This could lead to the conclusion that they must have seen the killer before they committed the deed. In another example, the UM could see that a victim didn’t feel any pain before their senses shut off, resulting in death. This could prove that the victim died instantly. If the UM saw the victim felt a sense of hope before their death, it could signal they might have been trying to leave a clue as to who their killer was, which might lead to a piece of evidence being re-examined as such.

This kind of a gimmick takes some inspiration from a game I HAVE played: Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. However, I feel like I made it different enough to be its own thing. I feel like it could also work in a dual protagonist situation, with one being the UM who does the seance, and another, more traditional protag examining the body, with the two working together.

What do you guys think? Could this gimmick actually work in a Fangan?

Help me name my Ultimate Medium OC! (beta design below)

This is my Ultimate Medium OC! Idk if I’ll put her in anything, but she‘d be the protag. She doesn’t have a name yet, as I’m not very happy with anything I write (I’ve been trying anagram variations to little success). Do any of you guys have suggestions as to what her name could be?

Spirit medium protag gimmick?

Would a protag who can commune with the dead (only to a limited level with obvious restrictions, they cat just ask who killed them) work? Like in Ace Attorney 6, for example.
