I mean, almost the ENTIRE subreddit is just complaining. But a few years back, it was a normal sub with barely any complaints. So i think it is a sign your platform is bad.

Sadly the style update has been released, and were stuck with 2 models for users to choose. This could have been preventable by just making the features not compatible with those models greyed out but unfortunately everyone has the update. We will likely never get these models back.

Also, free users get 1 style. Paid users get 2

In my time zone, it is may 7. Now, unfortunately, the legacy models retire on may 8. So these are the last hours of these models.

Usually, your post just gets deleted, or ignored. I don’t get why they do this, especially since rule 14 on this sub says “Please visit our Help Center for any questions, concerns, or feedback.” Instead they add useless updates, features and broken models. Can they take feedback for once?

The first launch: Character AI launched in November 2021. While not public during that time, it started developing its models. It raised 43 million dollars in seed funding during its initial foundation.

Going public: It is now September 16, 2022, and anyone can use Character AI. All you have to do is create an account, and you can create or chat with any character you want.

Getting popular: In 2023, Character AI became much more popular. More bots were being created, and if I am right, there were around 1 billion words generated per day.

Legacy site: In March 2024, the beta site (which had the old interface) was officially moved to a new domain: old.character.ai. The new interface was being tested for feedback, which was later released.

Co-founders are gone: In August 2024, Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, along with other people, left. They are no longer part of the Character AI team as they rejoined Google.

August 2024: Old Character AI is being retired, which was also one of the starts of its downfall.

Old Character AI retired: It is now September 24, 2024, and a big change has happened: the old Character AI has been officially retired. Now, you can only access the new interface.

Age verification: It is now October 29, 2025, and Character AI has announced age verification. It is not officially out yet.

The official age verification: It is November 25, 2025, and everyone under 18 can no longer chat with characters.

Limiting users to 2 chat styles/models can make the experience worse, as if the models starts bugging, they are stuck with those models. Free users technically only get 1 chat styles, which is even worse.

I just think there needs to be more styles

To test this, I created a new account, created a new private bot called test, and tried using pipsqueak 2 to regenerate the greeting. Here are 3 greetings it generated.

As you can see, it is not very good at this. This is why I am reporting on it, I believe this should be fixed.

It’s more accurate to the models style.

Ever since 2025, Character ai has been falling off. Most of the features on Character AI are useless, and also bad. For example, legacy styles being removed, Feed, books, and more. The model quality has been getting worse, user experience, and just the app as a whole.

Including moderators, they do not actually help you, they just give a useless robotic comment that actually helps zero people, making the platform even more frustrating. This “c.ai labs” thing is another useless feature.

Also, if you’re gonna remove chat styles, add more then just 5 styles. It had tons of styles back then, nowadays is just empty.

Overall this platform is dying and becoming worse.

Hello, if you’d still like to chat, you can disable reading mode following these simple steps. It only works on iphones and ipads.

1. Delete the character ai app temporarily.

2. Install “AdSpamBlock” on the app store.

3. Open the adblocker, then enable it. Once it is enabled, you can go back to the app store.

4. After going to the app store, redownload character ai app. Then it should allow you to chat with characters.
