advice for switching from viola to violin?
so basically, im about to graduate highschool and im planning on taking a gap year before i go into school. i wanted to pursue viola performance, but after a lot of thought im realizing that violin performance would be way more fun for me. almost all of my favorite composers have written major works for it and have no such works for viola(shostakovich, poulenc, prokofiev, barber, etc.) there are also way more fun showpieces. of course i still love viola and plan to continue playing it in both solo and chamber music settings, but i just want to prioritize violin for my own enjoyment. im wondering what pieces would be best for me to audition for colleges with, as well as just general advice/knowledge to aid in the transition. for context, recently i have worked on the first and third movements of der schwanendreher and walton concerto, the first movement of arpeggione, bruch romanze op 42 on viola, and bax viola sonata. im totally fluent in treble clef as well. my rough idea of pieces for college are mendelssohn or bruch 1st movement, prelude and loure from bach e major partita, and paganini 9 or 11, but im also not totally sure about how common those pieces are compared to what more experienced violinists end up playing.
