Pocket Shuffle Chess

Pocket Shuffle Chess

Pocket Shuffle Chess is a tiny 5x6 chess variant built for fast tactical games.

The pieces are familiar, but the starting setup changes, so memorized openings matter less and each match becomes a small puzzle. You can play against AI, test daily/random setups, and share seeds so others can play the exact same position.

I’m testing whether the smaller board and shuffled openings make chess feel faster, less intimidating, and more replayable.

Fast chess. New opening every time.

Game Title: Pocket Shuffle Chess — a tiny 5x6 chess variant with shuffled setups, AI, and shareable challenges

Playable Link: https://chess.alphaden.club/

Platform: Web / Browser

Description: Pocket Shuffle Chess is a small 5x6 chess variant built around fast matches, shuffled starting setups, and simple replayable challenges.

The game keeps the familiar chess pieces and rules, but compresses the board into a smaller format so games finish faster and feel less intimidating. The back-rank pieces can appear in shuffled layouts, with pawns in front, creating different tactical setups without requiring players to learn a completely new board game from scratch.

Right now, the game includes play against AI, seed-based setups, and shareable challenge links. The idea is that one player can share a specific setup, another player can open the same board, try to beat the score/result, and then share it forward as a challenge.

I am mainly looking for feedback on:

  1. Is the game understandable within the first minute?
  2. Does the 5x6 board feel fun, or does it feel too restricted?
  3. Are shuffled setups interesting or confusing?
  4. Is the AI mode useful enough for testing?
  5. Would you share a seed challenge with a friend?
  6. What made you stop playing?

Involvement: I designed and built the game myself. I’m currently testing the core loop, UI clarity, AI mode, seed sharing, and whether the smaller chess format has enough replay value before adding more polish.

Pocket Shuffle Chess: fast 5x6 chess with shuffled setups, short matches, and no memorized openings. Looking for honest feedback.
