Cooling Beds? 🧊

Cooling Beds? 🧊

Hello!

What cooling beds/icepacks is everyone using for their Poms?

Little man is scheduled to get a trim soon but we are trying to prepare for summer.

Hello,

I'm fostering an older pom (estimated about 7 years).

I've noticed a few things about his health/behavior that are concerning to me but I've never owned a pom so I don't know the quirks of the breed.

He was rescued from the shelter about a month ago and has been settling with me for less than a week (a few days) so I don't know how much is just transitioning and stress. I'm trying to stick to the 333 rule. 😅

First he's panting a lot. The only time I don't see him pant is briefly after a nap. I know he's going to need time to feel safe and he definitely has separation anxiety...but it still has me concerned.

Second is he snores, which is adorable. But I've seen him do it with his eyes open. I thought maybe he was asleep but just seems to be a lying down thing.

Third I've seen him cough a few times. So far I've noticed it after drinking water (figured he drank too fast) and right after a bit of exercise. One time I was just in the other room and it was more of a honk, not sure what he was doing then.

He hasn't worn a collar at all, but I have been front clipping the harness since he pulls a little. I'm going to stick to only using the back for now in case this was causing any pressure.

But I've been researching the coughing and now I know tracheal collapse is common with these guys so now I'm concerned but not sure if I'm overreacting. I did give the rescue a heads up that he was coughing and panting and I'll keep them updated.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Side note I can't believe how sweet and smart this little man is. ❤️
