I’m a relatively new campus hire analyst at Deloitte (less than a year in), and I’ve been staffed under Enterprise Performance → SAP Portfolio. Like a lot of analysts in my starting cohort, I had little to no idea what SAP was coming in, and now we’re all spread across different projects trying to get up to speed with the learning curve.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about whether specializing in SAP is worth it long term, especially compared to other offerings at the firm. I understand SAP can get pretty niche, but is that a good thing?

From a career perspective, especially thinking about exit opportunities, I’m trying to figure out:

  • Is having deep SAP expertise more valuable long term?
  • Or is it better to diversify into areas like strategy, broader analytics, or other offerings?
  • How transferable are SAP skills outside of SAP-specific roles?
  • Is there any risk in being too specialized if demand for SAP shifts over time?

Would really appreciate hearing perspectives from people who’ve gone down the SAP path (or chose not to), especially in terms of long-term growth and exit opportunities.

Thanks you all in advance!
