You guys really hated my title.
The title was originally supposed to be a gag...something that would get people doing a double take and wonder "No, it couldn't be. Someone wouldn't write THAT kind of story, would they?" and maybe read a few paragraphs. Or even just the synopsis. It was intentional absurdity on my part. The idea was to have a name that defied conventions a little and stood out in the ever-growing list of available litrpg titles.
But, that was apparently a bad idea. I didn't expect people to have such a visceral reaction that they'd not even read a short synopsis to see that the name wasn't actually a thesis statement on the book itself. I made the subtitle ridiculously long as a jab at the current isekai trend that does the same but without irony. I figured that would be enough to sell the joke but...I underestimate how strongly a single word can effect some people.
So, I've been thinking about what makes my story work and what the titles of the most popular books trend towards. Usually, the best selling titles are something simple. A class. A name. A place.
With that in mind, I started tinkering with what makes my MC stand out. Most people who read the work says that it's his voice. So I considered using "voice of ___" but that didn't really fit the narrative of the story. It's just an aspect of my writing style. What I landed on as a tentative working title, and would like your opinions on is the following:
Moxie: Conviction of the Infiltrator. Moxie is one of the MC's hidden stats. Conviction is a literal mechanic for one of his weapons. Infiltrator is his primary class. The subclass is apparently best left unsaid in polite company.
So, what do you all think? Better than "Oedipus Protocol: So I got the dumbest possible subclass and accidentally saved the universe"?
