You guys really hated my title.

The title was originally supposed to be a gag...something that would get people doing a double take and wonder "No, it couldn't be. Someone wouldn't write THAT kind of story, would they?" and maybe read a few paragraphs. Or even just the synopsis. It was intentional absurdity on my part. The idea was to have a name that defied conventions a little and stood out in the ever-growing list of available litrpg titles.

But, that was apparently a bad idea. I didn't expect people to have such a visceral reaction that they'd not even read a short synopsis to see that the name wasn't actually a thesis statement on the book itself. I made the subtitle ridiculously long as a jab at the current isekai trend that does the same but without irony. I figured that would be enough to sell the joke but...I underestimate how strongly a single word can effect some people.

So, I've been thinking about what makes my story work and what the titles of the most popular books trend towards. Usually, the best selling titles are something simple. A class. A name. A place.

With that in mind, I started tinkering with what makes my MC stand out. Most people who read the work says that it's his voice. So I considered using "voice of ___" but that didn't really fit the narrative of the story. It's just an aspect of my writing style. What I landed on as a tentative working title, and would like your opinions on is the following:

Moxie: Conviction of the Infiltrator. Moxie is one of the MC's hidden stats. Conviction is a literal mechanic for one of his weapons. Infiltrator is his primary class. The subclass is apparently best left unsaid in polite company.

So, what do you all think? Better than "Oedipus Protocol: So I got the dumbest possible subclass and accidentally saved the universe"?

What is a review you've received that left you buzzing after you read it?

I love all my positive reviewers but I think the one that stood out to me the most was:

"... a modernized and significantly crasser version of P.G. Wodehouse."

It's probably too deep a cut for a lot of readers to really get the weight of the comparison, but I got that review about a month ago and I'm still riding the tail end of the high from it.

I always love reviews that compliment the voice of my work, because I feel like that's one of my biggest strengths. It's nice to have that validated from time to time.

So, now that my humble brag is complete, I'm curious...what's your favorite review/comp that you've got?

(edit - also, please forgive the slightly wonky post title. I'm hyped on Monster Energy)

Oedipus Protocol: So, I was given the dumbest possible class and accidentally saved the universe

What's the dumbest thing you've ever said? I'm not talking about mundane idiocy, here. What's the absolute most dunderheaded, completely imbecilic phrase you've ever uttered? Got it? Are you reliving the moment? Sorry about that.

Now imagine that you unknowingly said that stupid thing to The System...and The System said "Bet." Now you're stuck in a new world, reincarnated with the dumbest thing you ever said turned into a literal subclass. Good luck.

Rocky Hall has just had the worst day of his life; a cascade of petty catastrophes that ended with him screaming the dumbest, crudest insult imaginable at a Brooklyn construction worker. It wasn't clever. It wasn't brave. It was just the last thing he ever said before he died.

Then he woke up in a fantasy world governed by a System that talks like a guy from Queens and holds grudges like one, too. His class? Infiltrator. His hidden subclass? Built entirely around those five stupid words he screamed on the worst day of his life. Every quest, every ability, every impossibly awkward encounter traces back to an insult he can never take back.

Now Rocky has to find a way to survive in a world full of monsters, aliens, and gods...and the only thing standing between him and permanent death is a class designed to humiliate him.

Oedipus Protocol: For everyone who's ever said something ridiculous and had to live with the consequences.

Note: Before you ask: no, he doesn't bang his own mom. His rivals' moms? Definitely on the table. The title is a joke that went too far, just like everything else in this story. Oedipus Protocol is an on-going action-adventure LitRPG webseries.

New chapters released daily M-F. What to expect from my story: comedy, progression, found family, slice of life, competing love interests, multiple lovers, dungeon crawling and kingdom building.

What actual purpose does it serve to start an entirely new fiction when moving on from book one of a series to book two? Aside from the chapter numbers staying more manageable, wouldn't it be preferable to keep the followers you have on the existing fiction rather that starting over back at zero and having to build from the ground up again?
