Hello au pair community! I am currently a student who is from the United States. I have been chatting with multiple different families that I met on AuPairWorld.com. Most of the families are in France, but I am in contact with one from the United Kingdom (London specifically).
We started our conversations via email at first, then we moved over to WhatsApp. The mother claims to be a nurse, and her husband does something in tech. They have two kids who I would be looking after (a younger boy and older girl).
I have had a video called with every family so far, EXCEPT this one. The mother says she has a mandatory hospital conference this weekend, but we will call once she’s back.
She said that her and her husband really like me, and want me to come work for them.
Her husband went to a lawyer and drafted a contract for both of us to sign, as well as a temporary work visa application.
I started filling the application out, and some red flags are starting to show up for me.
- They haven’t talked with me face to face, yet they’re willing to commit to a whole year with me.
- This all needs to be completed within three working days, or else my visa application will expire.
- The lawyers email is from an @consultant.com email address. The lawyers name seems legit, except it’s spelled McDougal in our email correspondence, but when I look it up via google, it’s spelled MacDougall. He also has a different email listed on his website.
This family did send me pictures of themselves and their kids. I did a reverse image search to see if the photos were stolen, and nothing came back. I don’t know if I’m being paranoid, or if this really could be a scam.
I don’t want to throw my money down the drain, but I don’t want to miss out on this opportunity.
Please help me! I’m really confused and stressed😭😭
