If you're playing the selig build, take the heart of stone upgrade on the war plan tree for the pit. It's the left branch, the node on the right.

The upgrade makes it so that you can pick up and carry a stone that will make ennemies drop progess orb for the pit. The stone drops when you take substained damage, but with the selig build, we almost never take enough damage for it to drop. And the stone need to drop a numerous amount of time for it to break. If you finish the run without breaking it, you get an extra glyph upgrade.
This makes the pit run greatly faster, since using it, i never had to go to the 3rd floor to finish my run, they always end in the middle of the second floor, i even finished one on the first floor once.
