So I recently accepted a job offer as a team member at a retail store and was looking over my contract letter and was slightly confused in places. The contract states that my "last working day is set to be" in 6 weeks. But the contract also discusses having a 12 week probationary window.

So I'm a little confused with what the arrangement here is. Is this a case of me only getting six weeks work and then I'm done, or is this as case that this is just to start and my contract will be renewed if I perform well enough. Do retail jobs often move people from temporary to permanent roles? If this is just a temporary job that's fine but I'd like to make it clear to them that I'd like to move into a permanent role eventually if its possible, how's the best way to approach that conversation?
