Wanting to hold out until better Qantas rewards, would getting a different card now get me auto rejected in 2-3 months for an Amex?

Hi all,

Starting to churn cards and I wanted to start off with Amex, since I know they are quick to decline once you started churning, so was planning to start with them and would keep my AMEX as well.

However, looks like I am a couple weeks late and the 70k bonus for Qantas is now 50k and not really worth it. I currently have a NAB Qantas card that I've had for a couple years now, so I dont have a history of churning.

But I was wondering if I got a Westpac qantas card now and then the AMEX and of July when the bonus changes and is hopefully higher, would I likely have issues getting approved then if I just got another card?

I am also likely getting a small car loan in the coming months, so I don't know if that would impact me since that would also incur another credit check. Just unsure if I should wait and not get another card or that it should be fine.

Any help is appreciated!

Is AMEX still worth it to get with only $50k bonus points?

Hi all,

Just went to apply for the AMEX Qantas rewards card and just saw they've dropped the bonus offer from 70k to 50k,

I'm just about to start churning (while we still can before the bonuses get reduced/removed), so wanted to tick off the AMEX first before I get auto declined for too many credit cards, but is it even worth it for the lower bonus amount?

Alternatively I was going to get the Westpac Qantas Card (as I have already had a NAB Qantas card for the last 2 yrs). If I got the Westpac card now, do you think I'd get auto declined by AMEX in the future when the reward points offer is increased?

I was planning to keep the AMEX long term for the high points rate and lounge access, so maybe it is still worth it just to get the churn out of the way and getting onto the higher amount cards (like the Westpac offer)?

Thanks!

Edit: I meant 50k points, not $50k in the title

Hi all,

About to sign up for the AMEX qantas ultimate card and just double checking theres no extra reward points offer via promo/referrals for this card. The offer showing to me on the AMEX site is currently 70k for sign up and 30k after a year.

Thanks!
