Hey,

TW: Suicide

I’m a clinician/therapist at a residential group home. I just have no where else to ask a group of therapists about this, and I’m so curious.

I have been getting an increasing number of youth who when discussing past traumas talk about viewing a friend commit suicide or have a suicidal attempt live on camera. I try to dissect it a bit and ask questions or gain context or a timeline and it’s always sporadic in details/veracity. But which how many youth I’ve had talk about this I just can’t seem to understand how this could happen to them and there be no follow up from any other source of this friends parents, or law enforcement, or just like something like this happening and then they just end the call??

Is this a real thing? A growing issue? I started this as a discussion post but felt changing it to rant was more appropriate. Being a gamer myself I am heavily aware of the absolute cesspool discord can be for teens and their mental health. Random strangers, chat rooms endless scrolls of NSFW and triggering content and a myriad of other issues. However these broadcasted/streamed suicides seem like a whole new beast of their own. Has anyone else experienced this? I am just completely speechless by how often it’s come up.

TBC is amazing and I love getting on with the boys. We have Kara down in about 1hr 20mins+\- and gruul/mag in 30mins. However. I’m almost full BiS and just raid logging right now. And feeling a little burnt out waiting for P2.

I absolutely have DESPISED hardcore and never gotten into it. Last night I was bored and decided to make a dwarf Hunter on skull rock.

I was instantly invited to a guild with 60+ people on (late night too, not peak hours) and then proceeded to have to fight for mobs because the starter zone was so full. The world felt so alive.

I hit level 8 and partnered with another hunter also level 8. We quested together for a bit and then found the rare spawn Timber (lvl 10) with 2 level 8 wolves at his side. We gave it a shot kiting the 3 wolves around and keeping them off each other (without concussive shot!) and we vanquished the 3 of them.

This alone was harder and more stressful than Kara and it was so fun!! I will still be playing TBC hard but my message is to just try something new! It was so fun and I can’t wait to get back on my hunter on HC now.

(Also I’m a casual dad gamer with only a few hours a week to play. This isn’t because I’ve put hundreds of hours into TBC and I’m bored now or over-grinded.)
