Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on my previous post about wisteria! I received a lot of valuable input.

While I am postponing the wisteria project to do more research, I’ve decided to attempt an embroidered spaghetti strap top. The context: I have a small piece of viscose crepe (110 g/m² weight) that I want to use as the base. For the second layer, I plan to embroider a net fabric using crystal chain, rhinestones, beads, and thin purl wire. I have never embroidered onto net for a full garment before—only for smaller decorative motifs.

My main concern is the durability and washability of the finished piece. If I plan to wear it, there is always the risk of spills or stains. I understand that some garments require hand-washing, but I’m worried about the metal components contacting the water—specifically the crystal chain and the wire. I don’t want to omit them, as they are designed specifically to embellish clothing.

Initially, I thought that on the rare occasion the top needs cleaning, I could simply unpick the seams, remove the net layer, and wash the base separately. However, I don't think the base fabric could withstand being disassembled and resewn repeatedly. Now, I’m considering using small snap fasteners. I haven’t figured out how to incorporate them into the pattern yet (I don’t have a specific pattern in mind), but I think a detachable net overlay would be much more practical.

What do you think? Has anyone else dealt with this predicament?

Any opinion is appreciated and thanks in advance!
