I’m worried about my hamster
I got my hamster Ziggy a year ago yesterday.
We immediately bonded and over the past year his trust has never changed - I get him out every evening and he sleeps in the pocket of my hoodie or in my hand as shown by the pic.
Always flat, calm, wanting fuss.
Over the last few days I’ve noticed he has become a bit aggressive.. he has only bit me twice in the past year, both of which were my fault as I stroked him when he couldn’t see me properly, scaring him.
Now, I’ll be cleaning out his cage and he becomes hostile. He always sleeps under this wooden table/platform in his cage. Yesterday he bit my fingers through the gaps as I was removing some items from the top.
Alongside this, I’ve gotten him out every evening by luring him out with mealworms and seeds. He comes out and I scoop him up gently followed by gentle warm cuddles downstairs.
Over the last few days, I place his seeds out and he rushes out thinking I’m a threat.
He eats a seed and then darts back under the table.
He has changed a lot. He has had the same cage for months and months, his furniture doesn’t had rearranged. I’m unsure what’s wrong. I’m just hoping he’s not in pain.
Could anyone tell me if this could be the case?
