Local Shanghainese Student Back from the U.S. — Happy to Share Shanghai Tips & Hidden Spots

Hey everyone,

I’m a local from Shanghai currently studying in the U.S., and I recently came back home for summer break.

I’ve been seeing more and more foreigners visiting or moving around China lately, especially Shanghai, so I thought I’d make a post here in case anyone wants local recommendations or insight from someone who grew up here.

A little about me:

·Born and raised in Shanghai

·Currently studying at a university in the United States

·22 years old

·Fluent in both English and Chinese

·Familiar with both Western and Chinese culture/lifestyle

I spend a lot of time exploring the city myself, especially:

·French Concession

·Wukang Road / Anfu Road area

·local coffee shops & bars

·hidden food spots

·less touristy neighborhoods

·nightlife & citywalk routes

I’m also really into photography, so I know a lot of great photo spots around the city and enjoy taking casual street/travel photos as well.

Since I have a car, getting around the city is also pretty flexible and convenient.

Honestly, I just enjoy meeting people from different backgrounds and sharing what everyday life in Shanghai actually feels like beyond the usual tourist experience.

If anyone’s coming to Shanghai soon and has questions about:

·apps/payments

·transportation

·where locals actually go

·nightlife

·food

·neighborhoods

feel free to comment — happy to help however I can.

Always cool meeting new people in the city ✌️
