I’m currently applying for a Subclass 482 visa as the primary applicant, with my wife included as a secondary applicant.
Here’s the timeline:
Lodged application: late October 2025
Received s56 request: Feb 3, 2026
Responded shortly after
Since then: no updates at all
Recently, things changed a bit:
My wife applied separately for a student visa and it has now been granted
My sponsor has also contacted the Department to request a split decision.
At this point, I’m starting to feel quite anxious about the long silence on my 482 application.
I’m considering the following actions:
- Uploading a letter via ImmiAccount to request removal of my wife as a secondary applicant
- Calling the Department to follow up on the case
My questions are:
- Has anyone been in a similar situation (dependent moved to another visa mid-process)?
- Does removing a secondary applicant actually help speed up the 482 processing?
- Would contacting the Department make any real difference, or is it mostly ineffective?
- Or should I just wait it out given that a split request has already been submitted?
I’m worried that doing something might complicate things further, but doing nothing is also quite stressful.
