Hi, I need some help because I’m honestly not very experienced with car/boat audio systems.
I currently have a Kenwood KMM-BT505DAB head unit connected to 6 speakers in my boat. The speakers are mixed brands (Lava Marine, Pioneer, and Clarion).
When I increase the volume (especially with bass-heavy music), I get crackling / distortion noises from some of the speakers.
After doing some research, I found out that:
- The head unit probably doesn’t have enough clean power
Some of my speakers are rated around 120W / 4 ohm / ~40W RMS
The Kenwood head unit is likely only around 20–22W RMS per channel
Because of that, I’m planning to:
Add an external marine amplifier
Replace all 6 speakers with a matching marine speaker set (same brand/model)
My setup:
2 speakers inside cabin
4 speakers outside (open boat environment)

What type of marine amplifier would be best for running 6 speakers properly?
Should I go with a 6-channel amp or 4-channel + 2-channel setup?
What are some good quality marine speaker brands/models that fits head unit and eventually amplifier?
