Poor text rendering

Hi everyone!

I recently got a boox go 7 and wanted to try koreader on it, but when i read my books on it i notice that it renders the text quite poorly.
The pictures are for the same book, first one on koreader, the second one on neoreader.
I don’t know you can notice it too, but on koreader the text doesn’t look really sharp.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Hello everyone!

I’m looking for suggestions on what to read next. I’m currently about 75% through The Neverending Story by Michael Ende (really enjoying it!), and I’ve already started thinking about my next book.

I don’t think I have a strict favorite genre, but I’d say I naturally gravitate toward fantasy (in a broad sense). To give you an idea of my taste, here’s what I’ve read over the past 1.5/2 years, with ratings:

  • The Three Body Problem trilogy - first two 5/5, last one 3/5
  • The Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit - 5/5
  • Conclave - 4/5
  • Imperium - 2/5 (was planning to read the full Cicero trilogy but didn’t love this one)
  • Dracula - 5/5
  • The Master and Margarita - 5/5
  • Metro 2033 - 4/5
  • Defending Jacob - 4/5
  • The Hunger Games trilogy - first two 5/5, last one 2/5

In previous years I also read stuff like Harry Potter (loved it), and listened to audiobooks like the first four Dune books (also loved them, though I feel reading them might be a bit heavy). Also classics like Frankenstein and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

A few months ago I started It by Stephen King, got to around 20%, but dropped it - I think the 1000+ pages kind of intimidated me.

Right now, my “to-read” list includes:

  • The Silmarillion (tried twice but never seriously)
  • Shōgun (again… very long)
  • A Song of Ice and Fire (not sure since it might never be finished)
  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
  • His Dark Materials

What I’m really looking for right now is a standalone book, not a long saga - though I know I have a few of those on my list already, and it mostly depends on my mood 😄

There are also series I’ve been meaning to read since I was younger, like The Chronicles of Narnia or Eragon.

Based on all that - any recommendations? Would love something really worth reading that fits my taste

Hi everyone,

I currently own a Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen that I bought at the end of 2023 to replace my old Kindle Oasis, whose battery died and was basically impossible to replace.

Overall I’m quite happy with it, but recently I’ve been reading a lot more and the form factor is starting to bother me. I noticed this already at the beginning, but now it’s becoming more annoying: I really miss the side grip and physical buttons, especially when reading in bed. Rotating the screen often forces me to hold it from the very thin bezel, which isn’t very comfortable.

Until recently it wasn’t a big deal, but now I’m seriously considering getting a new device.

I’ve looked at the options available here in Italy, and the realistic choices seem to be:

- Keep my current Paperwhite

- Kobo Libra Colour

- BOOX Go 7

The thing is, I’m a bit reluctant to spend €200+ just to get physical buttons… but if I were 100% sure, I might go for it.

Here are my concerns:

Kindle Paperwhite

No physical buttons, and bad ergonomics (main issue). Otherwise, honestly, I find it almost perfect

Kobo Libra Colour

I don’t really care about the colour screen, and my concern is the lower contrast / “grainy” look. I feel like I’d need to see it in person, because videos don’t fully convince me

BOOX Go 7

Isn't it a bit overkill? I really like the simplicity of Kindle’s UX, I feel like I don’t need an entire Android device, multiple apps, heavy customization, etc. That said, I’m a software engineer, so I think it wouldn’t be a problem, I’m just not sure I want that complexity. It's form factor is very appealing though

As for my library, I’m not deeply tied to the Kindle ecosystem as I load most books via Calibre, mainly to fix metadata or covers. I rarely do anything more advanced (only once I had to tweak CSS for font colors). I have to admit that the possibility to buy books easily from the device itself could come in handy sometimes.

What would you suggest me to do in this situation?

Thanks!
