Finally feeling done with our downstairs!
3 years after we moved in, I’ve taken my time to evolve away from the generic decor we’ve held onto since our 20s, and curated “forever” items and styling that hold meaning for us and reflect who we are.
I’ve re-integrated some very old family pieces from my late parents that I had sitting in my office, since I felt that they didn’t jive with the minimalist and contemporary aesthetic I’d had previously. I love seeing reminders of my parents, and where life took our existing family. It’s still probably too restrained and muted for others’ tastes, but it’s harmonious to us. The most difficult thing I had to design around was the playmat next to the dining room, but I think it worked out pretty well and will continue to serve us well as our kids grow. It’ll be comfortable for play and study groups, and it also won’t be a big deal if people spill soda or nail polish on it.
Further down the line I’ll look for art of the place we met for the hallway, but overall, I think we’re done!
