I have a bit of an unusual question. In my last two interviews (one for my current job and one for an offer I just received), I've had the same strange pattern: I got the offer after being rejected.

For the first role, I did an in-person interview and didn't hear back for two weeks. Then that Saturday, the Director called and told me I didn't get the position I originally applied for — but he was going to get approval from his VP to add another headcount for me. A week later, HR followed up and I got the job.

I thought it was a one-time thing. But a couple months ago, I applied for another opportunity I felt like a strong fit for. Same thing happened: I was told I didn't get the initial spot, but the Director went to her VP to see if she could add a position. I got the offer five days later.

So my question is: if I'm not getting the initial role but the hiring manager/director wants to hire me badly enough to create a new position, am I doing well in interviews? What does this pattern actually mean? I'm obviously happy with the outcome, but I'm curious what you guys make of it.

Would really appreciate your feedback!
