Getting hardware out curious about recovery
I have two plates and 13 screws that will hopefully all be removed soon. I’ve been in pain since I originally broke my leg so I’m very hopeful that this will help. Two of the screws are just in the bone (not plate), so they’re not sure if they will be able to get those out, they said the bone might have grown around it so it might be too hard now. They’re also putting a scope through the joint and removing any bone spurs. Finally they talked about releasing some facia. The appointment was really fast and I left kind of confused about the recovery. I had been told that most people walk out of this surgery but my doctor told me I would be no weight baring for 6 weeks. I’m fine with that, I just want a good recovery. The scheduler told me I would have to constantly have my leg elevated for 2 weeks then later in the conversation that turned into 4-6 weeks. That is more intense than my doctor was saying so I was surprised and started to get nervous.
I’m sure some of it depends on how the surgery goes so I’m curious if anyone else had a similar surgery, how was your recovery? How long did it take? Did you have to have your leg elevated constantly? Did you have anything on hand that really helped with recovery?
Thank you for taking the time to tell me about your experience!!
